The Children of War (TCOW) is a non-profit organization whose mission focuses on education and empowerment. It provides underprivileged children, young adults, and families in Afghanistan with primary education, nutritious food, and valuable job skills through schools and training programs it operates across the country. These schools follow the curriculum set by the Afghan Ministry of Education.
HRF is grateful for its ongoing partnership with The Children of War, with whom we have been collaborating since 2014. Our latest initiative, the Homaira Rahman Elementary School in Bamyan, Afghanistan, currently serves 117 second-grade students, including orphaned boys and girls. In addition, HRF and TCOW have worked together on several impactful projects over the years, including the bread distribution project, the Ramadan Iftar meal program, and various humanitarian & emergency aid efforts—all aimed at supporting vulnerable communities and combating food insecurity across Afghanistan.
Orphans & Widows Association/Dareecha-e-Noor (OWA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to aiding the most disadvantaged women and orphaned children in Afghanistan. In 2010, HRF established a Learning Center at the OWA school in Kabul. This multi-purpose facility contains a library and computer lab. It provides a space for collaborative and individual study for underserved primary school-aged boys and girls learning English and basic computer skills. Building on the success of the Learning Center, OWA and HRF launched a separate and even more ambitious initiative: the Homaira Rahman School. Jointly operated and funded—with costs evenly shared by both organizations—the school was established in 2013 in Kabul’s Parwan 3 district. Until its closure in 2021, the Homaira Rahman School provided quality education to 100 at-risk boys and girls in grades 1–6, helping to lay a strong academic foundation for their futures.
